Located in the heart of the Lyth Valley in Cumbria, famous as a damson growing region, a glacial valley running along the line between Kendal and Bowness, the Rusmickle Farm Caravan serves as a good base to explore the beautiful English Lake District.
Whether you're planning a family summer holiday or a quiet adult retreat from the stresses of the working week, the caravan is well appointed and very comfortable and intensely peaceful. It is ideally located as a base to further explore Cumbria; for walking, mountain biking or just taking in the gorgeous scenery. If you just want some peace and quiet, or if the weather is inclement, the caravan has everything you need to recharge your batteries.
Rusmickle is a family run working farm with a beef and dairy herd and sheep, alongside our damson orchards. It is nestled on the rising side of the Lyth Valley beneath Whitbarrow Scar and Lords Seat, affording pleasant views of Scout Scar and the Lakeland Fells, with wildlife-abundant woodland adjacent.
If you're lucky, alongside the livestock of the farm, you'll maybe also see red or roe deer, badgers, foxes, owls and a variety of wild birds. Greater Spotted and Green Woodpeckers can be heard and sometimes seen from the caravan windows as can blue jays, buzzards and occasionally a heron flies over.
On still, fine mornings and evenings, hot air balloons often fly over the area. The location of Rusmickle, away from any street lighting, gives a very clear dark sky for star gazing. On clear dark nights the Milky Way is visible, once your eyes adjust and you very often see shooting stars too.
The 34 foot 4 berth caravan has two bedrooms (one double and one twin room) and a further person can sleep in the lounge area if required. There is a comfortable lounge and dining area with lots of seating and a bathroom with shower and a well appointed, fully equipped, spacious kitchen. There is a fridge with a small freezer compartment, gas cooker and plenty of cupboard storage space. The lounge area has a colour TV/video and DVD player, gas fire and a selection of books and videos for days when you don't venture out. There is plenty of parking space adjacent and a patio area. The current caravan was new on the site for 2007.
If you enjoy eating out, the caravan is only a short drive from several highly regarded eating establishments; The Gilpin Bridge Hotel, The Lyth Valley Hotel, the famous Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank, The Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge and The Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite.
For food shopping and supplies, Kendal offers a good selection of supermarkets (Booths, Morrisons and Asda) and high street chain stores alongside a weekly market. There is a second Booths supermarket in Windermere, with a good selection of local independent shops throughout Lakeland.
We can't offer you an on-site shop, bar or restaurant, we don't put on entertainment or activities for children, but what we can offer is a tranquil, peaceful retreat, but with plenty of comfort and masses of fresh air. If you enjoy the freedom of a self-catered holiday, but value your privacy and personal space and enjoy the un-hurried pace of being off the beaten track, Rusmickle Farm Caravan may be ideal for you. You have everything to hand that you'd expect in a home from home, giving you a wonderful base for an English Lake District holiday.
The caravan costs £200 per week and bookings are for full weeks from Saturday afternoon, to the following Saturday morning. The price includes fuel and bedding. A non-refundable deposit of £50 per week booked is required when confirming your booking. Please telephone to check for availability of the dates you're interested in. Shorter breaks are occasionally possible at short notice, please call for availability. We regret that we cannot allow pets and the caravan is no-smoking.
